I know people bring this up a lot on DA, but I swear I'm seeing it happen even more than before.
Now I can understand if people are inspired by their favorite artist on DA and they want to experiment with a similar technique for a little bit. I can also understand that with tons of people on this planet it's hard to be completely original. But what I don't understand is when I see someone with an entire gallery that looks like an exact copy of another artist, right down to the subject matter AND style. In the canine groups I watch I've been seeing more and more fox artists that show up with styles that almost look like copies of =Culpeo-Fox
's cartoony drawings. In one Pokemon group that I'm watching I see three artists all with the exact same style. It's so similar that when all three of them submit I can't tell who is who from just looking at the art.
It's not that I'm mad that people are copying "popular artists" and I'm not trying to white knight for anyone. I'm mostly just confused by it all. As someone who values individuality and freedom a lot, I just don't get why someone would want to live in another person's shadow all their life. A whole gallery of art that's extremely similar to another person right down to the style and subject matter of the art. Personally, I like it when can I look at a piece of art and have an individual artist's name pop right into my mind because of his or her distinctive style.
It's also hilariously ironic when these people post a crapton of stamps on their page with phrases along the lines of "Don't compare me to another artist!" or "My art is 110% original!" It's even worse when they don't even credit their "inspiration" in any way, shape, or form.
